Introducing students to the field of aquaculture with an emphasis on cultivation methods, examples from the students country of origin and  the potential benefits as well as threats associated with onshore and offshore aquaculture operations.

Course Objectives:

  • To Give basic knowledge and know-how on global aquaculture.
  • To train students on basic tools for understanding the different methods and forms of aquaculture.
  • To illustrate the importance of aquaculture as a protein source and potential income in growing population world.

 Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

●       Have knowledge about today's aquaculture trends in the world (quantity and value).

●       Know the variety of organisms that are grown in aquaculture.

●       Understand the different strategies and forms of aquaculture and the connection of both.

●       Have basic knowledge in fish anatomy and physiology, nutrition, and reproduction.

●       Have basic tools in water chemistry relevant to practical aquaculture.

During the course, we will have formal lectures combined with in-class demonstrations. In addition, there is a professional day tour to local farms that practice aquaculture. During the course students will make a tour in 3 different types of aquaculture farms: 1) Commercial ornamental intensive fish farm. 2) crocodile tourist and commercial farm. 3) R&D public aquaculture farm located in Arava R&D "Yair" station
